Thanks to the work of vice-rectors Hasanov Magomedemin and Khrypunov Gennady with the sponsors more than UAH 600,000 were raised for the Association. With this money, the University was able to establish a monument to the First Engineer, worth 756,000 hryvnias.
On November 18, on the day of the 130th anniversary of the National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute”, a monument to the First Engineer was solemnly opened on the territory of the educational campus near the main avenue of the university. The author of the sculptural composition for the first technical university of Eastern Ukraine is the famous Kharkiv sculptor Seyfaddin Gurbanov.
The basis of the composition is a stream of water, on which the first graduate and his teacher are placed, behind them is the arch of the first building of the university, then three-dimensional images of what NTU “KhPI” is famous for – from a steam locomotive to a rocket. The pedestal is made of granite, and the base of the monument is made of two materials: copper and bronze. The author calls such a combination unusual and able to surprise. The height of the monument to the First Engineer is 6 meters, and the size of the pedestal is 4×4 meters.
According to one of the authors of the idea of the new sculpture, rector of NTU “KhPI” Yevhen Sokol, the monument is dedicated to all engineers of past, present, and future generations. It represents the main technical fields for which the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute trains personnel.
